For the better part of the past 60 years, space exploration as been a source of wonder for many. NASA has been at the forefront of the most legendary missions into space. Yet, there are those that might not be completely aware of what the true purpose of space exploration is. This is why it deserves a closer look.

If you're not sure what space exploration is; we define it as an expansive study of astronomy and physics. This is done by sending both "manned" and unmanned crafts into space. Once they reach their destination they perform all types of meaningful tasks.

A communications satellite can relay phone signals, television programming a and host of other signals. Spy satellites can keep tabs on all manner of military actions around the globe. Weather satellites can track the progress of global weather trends in order to minimize some of the negative effects poor weather can cause.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is who initiates all of these projects. Keep in mind; there are several private contractors that contribute to the overall apparatus, but it's what makes space exploration possible. It took years for NASA to be developed, and most of it actually happened by accident. It wasn't until there was a response to a serious national security issue that it became extremely important to everyone around the globe.

It was first derived by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), which was around before NASA was developed. While it was beneficial the work was uninviting and definitely lacking. Back in 1957 we saw the Soviets launch Sputnick I into space, which brought forth panic around our national security. The United States fell so far behind and it became a major concern. Soon former President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act in order to win the "Space Race." When Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon all took office consecutively, they built on the previous President's accomplishments. This allowed the U.S. to develop manned missions and step foot on the moon.

Of course, there are many achievements that space exploration attained through NASA's amazing successes and achievements. Tremendous achievements in science and physics were attained through the work performed by the personnel of NASA. Then, there is the psychological component of space exploration. A tremendous amount of pride can be derived from a nation that achieves tremendous success in its space and science program. And yes, there is an amazing sense of wonder that can be acquired from the great achievements NASA and space exploration have created.Learn more about Jason Hope his love for space exploration, science and how much Jason Hope loves the Phoenix Suns
